To Whom it May Concern:
I could not think of a better person to manage the lacrosse programs than Steve Schattner.  Not only because of Steve's knowledge of the game, having played for National Championship teams in college for UNC, but more for his love of the kids, the game and desire to make North Carolina lacrosse nationally recognized.  It's rare to find all these qualities in any coach, but so very special when you are lucky enough to do so.  Watching Steve work with players of all ages is inspiring.  He takes his game to each and every level, tailoring his teaching techniques to the youngest and least experienced up to the oldest and most experienced.  He has the depth of knowledge to effectively cover the entire range of experience and because of that breadth he is able to make each and every child feel like they are getting quality individual instruction.  While learning the basics of the game are incredibly important, the way the game is taught is almost more important, especially with younger players.  Steve has worked with kids of all ages and taught them with great knowledge, but more importantly with great respect.  Its not just the "game" with Steve, its all about molding and shaping young people in a positive and respectful way.

He teaches children of all ages to take the lessons learned in lacrosse off the field and carry them into their every day lives. Through Steve's instruction and energy, no child will walk off the field without learning the skills needed to succeed, both on and off the field, and without learning to love the game! I only wish that when I moved to Cornelius in 1999, my son would have had the ability to play for Steve at a young age.  He has played for Steve and Top Tier for the past three years.  During that time his game has significantly improved and he has learned to love the game, so much so, that he has declared he wants to play in college.  I have never seen my son so energized than when he plays the game and I attribute this almost entirely to his positive experience in the Top Tier program and Steve's tutelage.  There is nothing more fulfilling as a parent than to see your child enjoy something so much and want to be better each and every day both on and off the field.
